White as Snow

Snow days are not guaranteed every winter in Georgia. So when we do get one…Lord have mercy…it’s a state of emergency.  North Georgians were stranded on the roads trying to get home, so we prayed for their safety and quick return to their children.

On a more positive note, we got to enjoy the snow at our house.  It was Avery’s first time that she will be able to remember playing in the snow and Charlotte’s first snow ever!

Our backyard was beautiful.  I don’t say that often, because there is no grass, pretty shrubs, or flower beds in it.  It’s actually quite bland…and stark…and depressing.  When it was all covered in a beautiful white blanket of snow, I couldn’t stop staring at it.

While I was waiting on the top of the hill for my audience (I mean Michael and Avery) to return from an extremely long potty break so they could watch me sled down the hill into the bushes, it occurred to me that snow makes everybody’s yard look EXACTLY THE SAME.

It doesn’t matter if you spent thousands of dollars on landscaping, or if your yard has no grass and dog poop covering it…the snow covers it all and makes it equally as beautiful.  We see the snow, nothing else.

Our life is like that with God. Our sins are ugly, depressing, an eye-sore…full of poop.  When we accept Christ as Savior and repent of our sins, God sees them no more!

Isaiah 1:18 ” ‘Come now, let us settle the matter’, says the Lord.  ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”

Don’t forget that we ALL have sinned and ALL have fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) No matter how much we try to dress ourselves up to look pretty on the outside, God sees our heart.

We need a covering.  We need snow.  We need a savior.  ENTER JESUS.

1 Corinthians 1:30 “It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.”

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come.  The old has gone, the new is here!”

It was the blood of Jesus that washed away our sins.  His red blood covers us in white snow.  When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are HIDDEN IN HIM.  We are ‘in Christ’.  He is our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.

God sees JESUS when he sees us.  He sees a beautiful yard, covered in white snow, and he is pleased.  Stop ‘trying’…’trying’ to pretty yourself up, and ‘trying’ to outweigh your bad acts with good ones.  Just accept Jesus…his forgiveness…his righteousness…his glory.  HE is all you need to be made white as snow.
